A desktop heritage assessment study for a prospecting rights application on various farms near Alldays in the Musina & Blouberg Magisterial Districts, Limpopo Province

Summary

Archaetnos cc was requested by MSA Geoservices (Pty) Ltd trading as The MSA Group to conduct a scoping level desktop heritage assessment for a Prospecting Right Application (PRA) on various farms (24 in total) near Alldays in the Musina and Blouberg Magisterial Districts of the Limpopo Province. The aims of the study were to determine if there are any possible archaeological and historical sites, and features in the area that need be taken into consideration when prospecting work commences and that could be potentially impacted upon by future mining operations.

Various sources were consulted for the desktop study. There are some known heritage resources in the larger geographical area as well as the study area itself. It is also envisaged that a number of previously unknown sites might exist here and would be located during a physical survey of the area.

A number of recommendations are put forward at the end of this report. If these are implemented, from a Cultural Heritage point of view, there would be no objection to the proposed mining exploration.
