Specialist walkdown report for the new 400kv powerlines (Medupi-Massa)between the Medupi Powerstation and Massa Substation near Lephalale, Limpopo Province
Summary
Archaetnos cc was appointed by BAAGI Environmental Consultancy, on behalf of Eskom Holdings, to conduct a specialist heritage walk-down for two new 400kV powerlines from the Medupi Power Station to the Massa substation near Lephalale in the Limpopo Province. The distance of the powerline route is approximately 20km.
During the walk-down a number of sites, features and objects of varying degrees of cultural (archaeological and historical) heritage significance were identified. The report discusses these heritage resources, as well as the impacts of the powerline construction on these resources. Suitable mitigation measures are put forward at the end of this report.
The development of the powerlines can however continue, taking into consideration the measures recommended at the end of this document.
