A report on a Phase 1 heritage impact assessment (HIA) for the proposed Siphiwo Colliery, close to Middelburg, Mpumalanga Province

Summary

Archaetnos cc was appointed by Geovicon to conduct a heritage impact assessment relating to cultural heritage resources for the proposed Siphiwo Colliery. This is situated to the north of Middelburg in the Mpumalanga Province.

The fieldwork undertaken revealed no sites of cultural heritage significance. The area is largely disturbed by past human activities such as agriculture and mining.

The proposed development may therefore continue and this report is seen as ample mitigation in this regard. However one should always bear in mind that archaeological may be unearthed during construction activities. In such a case an archaeologist should immediately be called in to investigate.
