A report on a heritage impact assessment for the decommissioning of existing fuel storage facilities at the Dom Pedro Quay, Port Elizabeth Harbour, Eastern Cape Province

Summary

Archaetnos cc was appointed by WSP Environment & Energy to conduct a Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA) study for the proposed decommissioning of existing fuel storage facilities at the Dom Pedro Quay. This is at the Port Elizabeth harbor in the Eastern Cape Province. The structures are to be demolished as the land owner wish to utilize the land for another purpose.

The fieldwork undertaken revealed that most of the structures are younger than 60 years. Those which are older than 60 years, had a very limited heritage value. These are discussed in the report.

Mitigation measures are proposed. This indicate that this report is seen as ample mitigation and that all structures on site can be demolished. For those older than 60 years, demolition permits have to be obtained from the Eastern Cape Provincial Heritage Resources Agency (PHRA).
