A report on a heritage impact assessment for the proposed upgrade of existing facilities at the national department of public works Minnaar street workshops, Pretoria, Gauteng Province
Summary
Archaetnos cc was appointed by WMS Architects to conduct a cultural heritage impact assessment (HIA) for the proposed upgrade of facilities at the NDPW workshops in Minnaar Street, Pretoria. This is located in the Gauteng Province.
Four building are affected of which only two are older than 60 years. The buildings also are temporary buildings which had undergone different changes throughout the years. The buildings also are not in use any more and subsequently it had deteriorated, although it still is in a reasonable condition. Even the two buildings older than 60 years are not regarded as exceptional examples.
It may therefore be demolished/ changed as necessary. This report is seen as ample mitigation, but the necessary permits needs to be obtained from the Provincial Heritage Resources Agency of Gauteng (PHRAG).
