Report on the Phase II heritage investigation of a Farmstead on portion 470 of the farm Waterkloof 305 JQ near Rustenburg in  the Northwest Province

Summary

Archaetnos cc was requested by Hydro Science to conduct a phase II heritage documentation of a farmstead on portion 470 of the farm Waterkloof 305 JQ. This is close to Rustenburg in the Northwest Province. The area is earmarked for a residential development.

The phase II investigation was a result of the recommendations of a Phase I investigation done in April 2007. This investigation recommended that the particular farmstead may be demolished, but that it had to be documented first. This report is the result of the indicated Phase II documentation.

Legislation relevant to heritage was also discussed. The most important of these are the National Heritage Resources Act (Act 25 of 1999).

It needs to be indicated that the Phase I report gave the farmhouse a rating of medium significance. The conclusion from the Phase II investigation is similar, but it needs to be stated that the building has been changed to such an extent that it actually has no real heritage significance (low significance). It is therefore agreed that it may therefore be demolished. The necessary demolition permit will be requested from the Northwest Provincial Heritage resources Agency (PHRA).
