A report on a restrospective heritage impact assessment for the proposed new Police Station on stand 2171, Phola, Mpumalanga Province

Summary

Archaetnos cc was appointed by Urban Dynamics (Mpumalanga) Inc. to conduct a retrospective cultural heritage impact assessment (HIA) for the new police station on stand 2171 in Phola. This is located close to the town of Ogies in the Mpumalanga Province.

The fieldwork undertaken revealed no sites of cultural heritage significance. Although the police station has already been built it was clear that nothing of a heritage value would have existed on this property. Apart from it being in a township, the area has been disturbed in total. Therefore no mitigation is required.

The applicable social consultation has also been done, consisting of site notices and newspaper advertisements. No comments were received.

Note should also be taken that all archaeological and historical sites may not have been identified as it is possible that subterranean archaeological sites may be found later on. On identification of these it needs to be dealt with by an archaeologist.
