A report on a heritage impact assessment for the development of the Johannesburg Park Station Bus Ticketing and Waiting Area, Johannesburg, Gauteng ProvinceSummary
Archaetnos cc was appointed by the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) to conduct a heritage impact assessment for changes to be made to the bus ticketing and waiting area at the Johannesburg Park Station. This is in the Gauteng Province.
The development entails the changes to the existing building. These are mostly in the interior, but the western façade will also need to be extended.
The fieldwork undertaken revealed that the building is most likely younger than 60 years, but the study is still needed as it may impact on other buildings in the vicinity, which are older than 60 years. The building to be changed therefore has no heritage significance.
The proposed changes to the building is not major and therefore it is recommended that these may continue. There will also be no impact on other buildings in the vicinity. This report is seen as ample mitigation and no further action is needed.
The applicable social consultation has also been done, consisting of site notices and newspaper advertisements. No comments were received.
It is therefore recommended that the HIA be approved.
