A report on a cultural heritage impact assessment for the Dorstfontein Mine near Kriel, Mpumalanga Province

Summary

Archaetnos cc was appointed by the Dorstfontein Mine to conduct a cultural heritage impact assessment on areas where infrastructure will be developed for the mine. The Dorstfontein mine is located close to the town of Kriel in the Mpumalanga Province.

The fieldwork undertaken revealed two sites of cultural heritage significance. Both are of high cultural significance. The planned infrastructure development will have a direct impact on only one of these sites, but there will be a secondary impact on the second. The report indicates how to deal with this.

Suitable mitigation measures are proposed. Once these have been implemented, the proposed development may continue.
