A report on a cultural heritage impact assessment for the proposed Olifantsvlei Cemetary, City of Johburh, Gauteng Province

Summary

Archaetnos cc was appointed by Strategic Environmental Focus Mine to conduct a cultural heritage impact assessment on an area where it is proposed to develop a new cemetery within the City of Johburg. The area, in Olifantsvlei, is located in the Gauteng Province.

The fieldwork undertaken revealed two sites of cultural heritage significance. One of these is of high cultural significance. The planned development will have a direct impact on this site. But probably not on the other one, but there will be a secondary impact on the latter. The report indicates how to deal with this.

Suitable mitigation measures are proposed. Once these have been implemented, the proposed development may continue.
