Final report on a socio-anthropological study for the proposed Booysendal mine project Lydenburg area, Mpumalanga
Summary
Archaetnos cc was approached by BathoEarth Social & Environmental Consultants, as sub-consultants of Northam Platinum Ltd, to assist them in a Social-Anthropological study for the proposed Booysendal Mine Project.
We conducted an Archival and Deeds search, as well as a background historical and archaeological search of the area under concern. The results of this were to assist in helping to determine who the main group in the area is or was and what the make-up of the Community Forum should be.
A preliminary report already submitted was the result of the research conducted by Archaetnos cc, and included a summary of the Deeds searches, a site visit to the area by Archaetnos cc and the archaeologist from WITS Heritage who conducted an HIA in the area and a summary of historical and archaeological information contained in his report.
This document constitutes the final report, containing information from the social consultation visits and the questionnaires completed by various community members.
Based on all the information it is recommended that all the families should be represented on the proposed Community Forum.
