A report on a cultural heritage impact assessment for the proposed construction of a power line from Dinaledi to Benficosa, Northwest Province

Summary

Archaetnos cc was appointed by Texture Environmental Solutions to conduct a cultural heritage impact assessment for the proposed construction of a power line from Dinaledi to Benficosa. This is close to Madibeng (Brits) in the Northwest Province. Two options for the route were surveyed.

The fieldwork undertaken revealed seven sites of cultural heritage significance. Four of these are of a high cultural significance. Two of each of these is situated on each of the two alternative routes. Therefore regardless of which one is preferred, mitigation will be needed as the planned infrastructure development will have a direct impact on both of these. The report indicates how to deal with this.

It is proposed that Option 1 be the final route. Suitable mitigation measures are proposed. Once these have been implemented, the proposed development may continue.
