A report on the assessment of grave sites located in the proposed Zandspruit residential development area, near Randburg, Gauteng
Summary
Archaetnos cc was appointed by the Gauteng Department of Housing, in conjunction with Urban Dynamics and EMBA PM, to conduct an assessment of a number of graves and grave sites located in the Zandspruit Residential Development area near Randburg. The graves were discovered during previous surveys done in 2005 and by the land surveyors subsequently. The area is located on the farm Zandspruit 191 JQ in the Gauteng Province.
The aim of the assessment was to record the graves and grave sites in more detail and to propose suitable mitigation measures tot ensure that the development does not negatively impact on the sites.
Five grave sites in total were recorded during the fieldwork. Mitigation measures are put forward at the end of this report.
