A report on an archaeological impact assessment (AIA) for
the proposed upgrading of the bulk municipal water supply
pipeline on the farms Zeeland 526 LQ, Worcester 520 LQ and Paarl 522 LQ, Lephalale Local Municipality, Limpopo Province
Summary
Archaetnos cc was requested by Cultmatrix Heritage Consultants, on behalf of Gudani Consulting, to conduct an Archaeological Impact Assessment on portions the farms Zeeland 526 LQ, Worcester 520 LQ and Paarl 522 LQ, in the Lephalale Local Municipality area, Limpopo Province. This was for the EIA related to the proposed upgrading of the bulk water supply pipeline for Lephalale. The pipeline is 12km in length.
No archaeological sites of any real significance were identified during the survey, although some scattered archaeological material were located. The report gives a discussion of these finds and also gives an indication of the methodology followed. It also indicates how to deal with any archaeological material that may be unearthed during the development activities.
The finds are of low significance. Mitigation measures to minimize the impact of the development on these and any sites that might be found subsequently are put forward at the end of this report. Once these have been implemented the development can continue.
