A report on the cultural heritage aspects for a basic assessment for alternative 5 of the proposed construction of the Eskom Riversong power line and substation in the city of Tshwane, Gauteng Province
Summary
Archaetnos cc was appointed by Landscape Dynamics Environmental Consultants to conduct a basic assessment relating to the cultural heritage aspects for a fifth alternative (route alternative 5a and 5b) for the proposed construction of the Riversong power line and substation. Four alternatives were investigated previously. This is situated within the borders of the City of Tshwane in the Gauteng Province.
The fieldwork undertaken revealed two sites of cultural heritage significance. Both are situated close to route alternative 5a, but are of a low cultural significance. It may therefore be destroyed, but it would probably be possible to avoid both. Therefore any of the two alternatives from route alternative 5 may be used for the construction of the power line and substation. This report is seen as ample mitigation in this regard.
