Scoping report on a phase 1 cultural resources survey for the Two Rivers project done on the farm Dwarsrivier 372 KT, Mpumalanga Province

A survey was done in order to determine the presence, nature, extent and significance of cultural resources for the proposed northern open cast mining area at the Two Rivers Mine in Mpumalanga. During the field survey a number of objects and sites were identified.

All of these will be impacted upon by the proposed development. However none of these are of high cultural significance. A grave site, from which the bodies were exhumed, was found next to the house. The exhumation was not done in accordance with ethical practices. This issue is dealt with in the report.

With reference to previous reports done on the property some recommendations for the protection and preservation of important cultural sites are made.
