A report on a cultural heritage impact assessment for the proposed Country Estate on the farms Waterval 386 JP, Northwest Province

Summary

Archaetnos cc was requested by Maxim Planning Solutions to conduct a cultural heritage impact assessment for the proposed Country Estate on portions of the farm Waterval 386 JP. The farm is located approximately 20 km to the northeast of Swartruggens in the Northwest Province.

The fieldwork undertaken revealed five sites and some objects of cultural heritage significance on the area to be developed on the property. Some of the sites are of high cultural significance. The planned development also has a direct impact on one of these.

The report indicates how to deal with these sites. Those not threatened at present should be investigated in future if new developments are planned where it is located. For now it should be left in situ. The one site threatened by the development should be investigated further.

The proposed development may only continue after suitable mitigation measures have been implemented.
