A REPORT ON A HERITAGE IMPACT ASSESSMENT FOR A PROPOSED RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT ON PORTION 92 (A PORTION OF PORTION 85) OF THE FARM BOTHASFONTEIN 408 JR, CITY OF JOHANNESBURG, GAUTENG PROVINCE

Archaetnos cc was appointed by Zotec Developments (Pty) Ltd to conduct a heritage impact assessment for a proposed residential development on portion 92 (a portion of portion 85) of the farm Bothasfontein 408 JR. This is in the City of Johannesburg, Gauteng Province. It will be known as Barbeque Downs x 44.

 

The project firstly entails the consolidation of the two erven, then the demolition of existing buildings on the properties and hereafter a residential development. This consist of 40 units, combined into four levels as well as a parking area and landscaped gardens. The erven lie on the corner of Justice Mahomed and Rupert Street, Brooklyn, Pretoria.

 

Two of the existing buildings on the properties are older than 60 years but has no heritage significance. One has been adapted over the years to such an extent that it has no inherent heritage importance left. Also, nothing else of heritage importance was noted.

 

The applicable social consultation has also been done, consisting of site notices and newspaper advertisements. No comments were received.

 

The development may therefore continue. It is recommended that this HIA report be approved by the PHRA-G and that the demolition of the existing buildings on the property be approved.
