A REPORT ON A PHASE II CULTURAL HERITAGE IMPACT ASSESSMENT FOR A HOUSE TO BE DEMOLISHED AT THE PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT OF PORTION 582 (A PORTION OF PORTION 75) OF THE FARM ZEVEN FONTEIN 407 JR GAUTENG, HOLDING 35 BEVERLEY AGRICULTURAL HOLDINGS, SANDTON, GAUTENG PROVINCE
Archaetnos cc was requested by JHB101 to conduct a Phase II cultural heritage impact assessment (HIA) for a proposed residential development on portion 582 (a portion of portion 75) of the farm Zeven Fontein 407 JR. This is at 35 Mulbarton Road, (Holding 35) of the Beverley Agricultural Holdings, Sandton, in the Gauteng Province.
A Phase I heritage impact assessment was done in May 2017. During this study, one building, a residential house with medium heritage value was identified. The client indicated that the building should be demolished. The Phase I heritage impact assessment indicated that demolition may be allowed, but that mitigation measures should be implemented. The proposed development may continue after implementation of these.
The mitigation recommended that a Phase II report should be done, documenting the house. This report is the result of the Phase II study. Documentation was done by making use of existing plans, historical information and taking photographs of the most important features of these buildings.
No public consultation was done during the Phase I report. The Provincial Heritage Resources Authority of Gauteng (PHRA-G) therefore requested that this be done during the Phase II investigation. It is therefore also included here.
It is recommended that the PHRA-G approve this report, take note of the social consultation and therefore allow the demolition of the building. No work on site may commence before receiving the necessary approval from them.
