A report on a heritage impact assessment study for the proposed relining of the reservoir feed for the Tembisa reservoir, Tembisa, Ekurhuleni Local Municipality
Summary
Archaetnos cc was requested by Nemai Consulting to conduct a heritage impact assessment study for the proposed relining of the reservoir feed for the Tembisa Reservoir. The area is located in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni Local Municipality.
The fieldwork undertaken revealed no sites, features or objects of any cultural (archaeological or historical) significance in the area that will be affected by the relining of the pipeline feed. A large cemetery is located here, but will not be negatively impacted upon by the proposed development. Also, most of these graves are younger than 60 years of age and known/marked by headstones.
It is therefore recommended that the proposed development continue, but with the prerequisite that the cemetery and all graves located close to the development be clearly demarcated and protected before work on the pipeline relining commences.
