A preliminary archival report regarding the Ga-Chatleka and Mmaegangwe Land Claims in the Soutpansberg area, Limpopo Province
Summary
This report is a preliminary report dealing with certain historical documented information regarding farms in the Bandolierkop area. These farms form part of two different land claims, those of the Ga-Chatleka and Mmaehangwa communities.
A number of twenty one farms are mentioned in the documentation and therefore all of these were included in the study, although it is believed that not all of these are included in the claims. This aspect needs to be clarified.
Three sources were used for obtaining information. These are the farm registers in the Dees Office in Pretoria as well as the Central Archives Depot and Transvaal Archives Depot, which forms part of the National Archives repository.
Although some remarks are made with relation to the contents of these documents, no final interpretation is given. This will be done in a final report after further research has been done.
