Summary
Archaetnos cc was appointed by Wandima Environmental Services to conduct a cultural heritage impact assessment on a portion of the farm Middelburg Town and Townlands 287 JS. This is in Middelburg in the Mpumalanga Province.
In the area impacted upon by the proposed development three sites of cultural heritage significance was found, dating to the Iron Age. The report gives a discussion of these finds and also gives an indication of the methodology followed. It also indicates how to deal with any archaeological material that may be unearthed during construction activities in the future.
The three sites may be interlinked and are of a high cultural significance. Therefore suitable mitigation measures are proposed. It is concluded that the proposed development may only continue after implementation of these.
